Schwarzenegger promotes electric cars as undercover car salesman
Arnold Schwarzenegger moved from guzzling Hummers and big SUVs to electric cars and environmentalism. The Actor and former Governor of California have always been sensitive to the topic of electric cars. Not long ago he had his Hummer modified & converted to electric car followed by his Mercedes Benz G wagon. But now he is taking his efforts undercover to promote electric cars and their benefits, he lent himself to a fun advertising Electric For All Campaign to aim awareness and to choose electric cars. As disguised as a used car salesman to create a few comedic situations in the “Kicking Gas” series. In its approximately three and a half minutes in length, you see Schwarzenegger wearing the funny clothes of “Howard Kleiner”, a fake salesman at a dealer who will do anything to convince potential (real) customers not to buy an electric vehicle.
An extremely funny and must-see skit to which Schwarzenegger gladly participated since he has always been very mindful to environmental issues. While the goal is to promote EVs, the actor and former governor creates a series of paradoxical narratives for the shoppers. For example, one shopper is dubious with how quiet a Nissan Leaf is while it drives. The Kleiner character reacts it’s just an reason to hear the family’s conversations while driving, and emissions and pollution are a sort of global population control, as Kleiner revs up a Hummer H2. Schwarzenegger even hurls in a few humorous touches for the clueless shoppers, letting one know, “I’ll be back”—of course, a nod to his famous line in “The Terminator.”
At the end of the ad, Schwarzenegger feels that electric cars save money, time and help protect the environment without compromising on driving pleasure. In a statement, Schwarzenegger said he wanted to the campaign to be edgy, clever and funny. Scare tactics, he thinks, are played out. Silliness and comedy will get more people to listen and consider electric cars. The superstar actor has long helped promote green initiatives and even had his iconic Hummer H1 converted to an electric vehicle. The series kicks off a larger campaign that aims to educate local Californians about the benefits of EVs. Electric For All data showed around 50 percent of residents know nothing about electric cars.
Do not worry Kleiner isn’t going away where any time soon. Electric For All and the “Kicking Gas” series is scheduled to release videos and content for at least six months this year. So stay connected for more updates or should we say He will be Back!
